Plant Overview

This mint has ginger/apple flavour and often has golden stripes/markings on its foliage. A hybrid from Mentha arvensis (Field or Corn Mint)and Mentha spicata (Spearmint).

Use for teas, iced drinks and garnishing sweet dishes.

Attractive mauve flowers in late summer.

Common name(s): Ginger Mint, Red stemmed, Golden apple, Little-leaved or Vietnamese Mint

Used for teeth whitening in the 14th century, but fell out of use, so presumably wasn't very good!

All flavoured mints smell first of mint, with the flavour being the secondary scent. The best example of this is mint chocolate, where you can taste both chocolate and mint.

All our plants are supplied in 9x10cm pots unless otherwise specified. Plants in this size pot establish quickly in the garden and often outpace plants in bigger pots planted at the same time. Our potted plants can be planted immediately, unless otherwise noted, or you can leave them in their pots until you are ready to plant.
