A dwarf bearded iris with large yellow flowers over blue-green foliage. Very good on a rockery, gravel garden or in a container. This variety is not often seen in the UK but is excellent in the garden.
Native to Bulgaria, Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, and into northeast Greece. Hardy in the UK but requires a well drained soil as it does not like to overwinter in soggy soil.
Height and Spread: 10cm x 25cm
Iris: Named after the goddess of the rainbow, probably because of the variety of brilliant flower colours. Irises were traditionally a symbol of power and much used in heraldry, being the symbol of the kings of France. They had a variety of medicinal uses, and iris root was important in perfumery. Irises grow in a variety of habitats, some in baking hot sun and others in water.
