Plant Details

A rarely offered Iris from Russia. Short at only 10cm, and preferring Well-Drained to dry soil, it's ideal for a container or rockery. Bright yellow flowers in spring.

Native to Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Russia but is currently on The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as there are declines everywhere as evidenced in the species being marked as threatened in several national red list.

Height: 10cm

Iris: Named after the goddess of the rainbow, probably because of the variety of brilliant flower colours. Irises were traditionally a symbol of power and much used in heraldry, being the symbol of the kings of France. They had a variety of medicinal uses, and orris root was important in perfumary. Irises grow in a variety of habitats, some in baking hot sun and others in water.

All our plants are supplied in 9x10cm pots unless otherwise specified. Plants in this size pot establish quickly in the garden and often outpace plants in bigger pots planted at the same time. We do not sell 'plug plants' because those need to be grown on before planting. Our potted plants can be planted immediately, unless otherwise noted, or you can leave them in their pots until you are ready to plant. We grow everything we sell ourselves, in our nursery in the Buckinghamshire countryside.
