'Golden Knees', or 'Golden Star' comes to us from North America, where it grows in woodland areas from Pennsylvania to Florida and Louisiana. Fully hardy and semi-evergreen, the star-shaped yellow flowers really stand out in shady areas. Happy in full or partial shade, it flowers from spring into mid-summer and then again in autumn. It forms a low spreading mat, making it an excellent ground cover which is rarely seen in this country. The latin name is Chrysogonum virginianum
