Plant Details

Tradescantia are good plants to add colour and interest to shady moist spots. This variety has purple flowers with yellow stamens.

Good upright habit. Flowers from spring to Autumn if happy.

Tradescantia x andersoniana is named after John Tradescant, who brought the plant to Britain from Virginia in 1629. The name Spiderword comes from the mistaken belief that the plant could cure poisonous spider bites.

Height: 50cm

Common name(s): Spiderwort; Moses in the Bulrushes; Devil in the Pulpit; Widow's Tears.

All our plants are supplied established in pots. We do not sell 'plug plants' because those need to be grown on before planting. Our potted plants can be planted immediately, or you can leave them in their pots until you are ready to plant. We grow everything we sell ourselves, in our nursery in the Buckinghamshire countryside.
