Hardy Geraniums

Hardy Geraniums

Hardy geraniums are reliable, long-flowering, easy-to-grow plants. They are commonly known as cranesbill geraniums, cranesbills or true geraniums and have been grown in British gardens for hundreds of years. Many hardy geraniums are excellent ground cover plants, often thriving in poor soil in deep shade where not much else will grow.

Autumn is the perfect time to plant Hardy Geraniums. They will establish quickly in the warm, wet soil and give an excellent display the following year.

They are incredibly useful to pollinators such as bees and hoverflies, with their long blooming periods and masses of flowers providing a long season of nectar and pollen.

Hardy geraniums should not be confused with Pelargoniums, which are often also called geraniums.

Traditionally, cranesbills offer protection against snakes and serpents. Hence the following country rhyme:

Snakes will not go,
Where geraniums grow.

Dreaming of geraniums is meant to be a sign that you need not worry about a recent quarrel, as it meant nothing and will soon be forgotten.

We have a large range of Geraniums, in various colours and sizes.
