I love the common names of Caltha palustris (which we've just added to our range): Marsh Marigold; King Cups; Cow Slops; Water Blobs; Golden Cups; Crazy Betty; Molly Blobs.
Different common names for the same plant come about because there used to be much less travel and communication between different areas of the country and they always fascinate me. This is the reason we now have the Latin binomial nomenclature system of naming - not nearly as much fun though!
Caltha palustris can be grown pretty much anywhere, although its natural habitat is water margins. It's loved by bees and has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
